Help Desk: Error #13: Type Mismatch (Due to Localization)

Error #-2147352571 occurs when you open attempt to add a title from the web reference catalog to your personal catalog.

Error #13 occurs when you open attempt to add a title from the local reference catalog to your personal catalog.

This issue is related to localization. Access is designed so that money and date fields will inherit the localization settings on the PC. For example in the US, currency is written as $1,000.00. In many EU countries the same amount would be written 1.000,00. A date in the US would be written 12/20/07 (month/day/year) and in some EU countries the date would be written 07/12/20 (year/month/day).

Since the data in the reference catalog is recorded using the US convention, when the application tries to copy from the reference catalog into the user catalog, the data does not match the expected format based upon the localization setting. Access calls this a "type mis-match" because it cannot automatically convert 1,000.00 to 1.000,00. Access decides that 1,000.00 is not a currency "type" of value and sees it as a incompatible "string" type of value.

The work around is to change the localization for the PC to the English (Unbited States) settings. The image below shows workable settings. (Unverified: Once your catalog is built you can change the seetings back to the desired.) settings.
