Help Desk: My Login Doesn't Work

The following reasons for a failed login are commonly:

  1. The login is case sensitive. This means that lower case and upper case letters are distinctive. You must type in your login with the upper case and lower cases letters as originally provided in your subscription email. Check to make sure that your keyboard is not inadvertently set with the "Caps Lock" activated.

  2. You may see three fields in the login challenge dialog box. One for the login name, one for the password, and on for the network domain. Always leave the network domain field empty.

  3. Your subscription may have expired. Check your expiration Date.

  4. A firewall can interfere with the login transaction. If you have recently installed a firewall or have made changes to your firewall, then you may need to change the settings in your firewall to permit the login to occur. For example you may want to make www.dvdregister.com and www.orlofsky.com  trusted sites.  A diagnostic test  is to turn-off the fire wall and then try the login procedure. If the login starts working then the firewall is probably inhibiting the login procedure.

  5. When the diagnostics above fail to remedy the issue, then another diagnostic is to use another computer and try the login from that computer. You do not have to have the DVD Register software installed on your PC to test your login. Test Your Login. If you can login from another PC then there may be an issue that is specific to the PC that cannot login. If you can login manually then the DVD Register should be able to login because it uses the same login procedure.

  6. Some users report that they can login into www.orlofsky.com but not into www.dvdregister.com  or vice-versa. These serfvers are not colocated and are administered independently. One is a UNIX based server and the other is a Windows based server. It is a good diagnostic to try your login on both servers.

  7. Some users from time to time have reported login issue with certain ISPs. For example with DirecTV came out with DirectWay, initially DirectWay users had trouble with the login. Apparently DirecTV made firmware changes in their equipment and login issue went away. A login issue may be related to a new ISP provider or new Internet Access technology.

  8. If none of the reasons above improve the situation with the login then send email Please include your name and your login. Type your login in the email exactly like you are typing it into the login challenge. It is normally best not to send your password.
